2012 Annual Chamber Banquet & Awards |
|
March 10, 2012

The 2012 Aztec Chamber Banquet & Awards were held on the evening of Saturday, March 10th. The Aztec Community/Senior Center was transformed into a centennial celebration. The San Juan County Historical Society and Aztec Museum & Pioneer Village graciously gave the chamber access to their copies of Aztec newspaper archives dating back to 1912 and copies of these were turned into main décor for the evening. Amanda Hawks, owner of Aztec Floral Design & Gifts, handmade custom bouquets for the table centerpieces that represented each of the decades throughout the last 100 years. Hiway Grill served an upscale traditional New Mexican menu. The entertainment, “1912: A Musical Snapshot” was performed by Jane Voss and ragtime piano player Adam Swanson. Swanson had just returned from a show at Carnage Hall in New York City, and both he and Voss shared some history about the era as they presented songs from the time.
The evening concluded with the presentation of the Educator, Citizen, and Business of the Year Awards. Anna Strauss from Aztec High School won Educator of the Year. Her fellow nominees were Patti Shaffer and Ginger Van Auken, both from Koogler Middle School. Eleanor Townsend took home the Citizen of the Year award. John Cater was also nominated in this category. Aztec Urgent Care, having been previously nominated last year, won Business of the Year and a free window cleaning for the business from Fish Window Cleaning. The Hiway Grill and Aztec Floral Design & Gifts were the other nominated business.
The Aztec Chamber of Commerce would like to thank all of the businesses that donated the array of silent auction items. We would also like to thank Aztec Urgent Care, San Juan Regional Medical Center, and Consolidated Constructors for their sponsorships of this year’s event.
Thank you to our sponsors!
